Wizards of Whisky: Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson (1942-2007) was an English writer and journalist who is widely considered to be the most important whisky writer of the 20th century. He was the author of many influential books on whisky, including The Definitive World Guide to Whisky, The Malt Whisky Companion, and Whisky. His books have sold over three million copies worldwide and have been translated into eighteen languages.

Jackson was born in Wetherby, England, in 1942. He studied English at the University of Oxford and then worked as a journalist for a number of newspapers and magazines. In the 1970s, he began to write about beer and whisky, and his work helped to popularise both drinks around the world.

Jackson’s writing on whisky was characterised by its clarity, wit, and enthusiasm. He was able to explain the complex flavours of whisky in a way that was both accessible and informative. He was also a great champion of single malt whisky, and his work helped to raise the profile of single malts around the world.

Jackson died in 2007, but his legacy continues to live on. His books are still considered to be essential reading for anyone interested in whisky, and his work has helped to shape the way that whisky is perceived and enjoyed today.
