Tasting notes and thoughts of Ashok Chokalingam of AMRUT AMAZE III

Fanatism, flavours and facts!

In the run up to the release of the final edition of Amrut Amaze we bring to you the tasting notes and thoughts of Ashok Chokalingam.

Before reading his review please put this in perspective, while Ashok is the master distiller & blender at Amrut he has been the global brand ambassador and has travelled the world tasting many whiskies. While he represents the brand and may not deplore any whisky from the stables of Amrut, his views on the final release of Amrut Amaze has surprised us!

Statement: “I tasted the whisky a number of times and evolved with these tasting notes; also, to note I have not come across many 50% abv single malt whiskies as soft and smooth as this one.”

Colour: Copper Hue

Nose: Jammy fruits at the forefront and has an alter ego of dried fruits (sort of juicy sultanas and date syrup) with a touch of floral character. This fruity character is punctuated by a fragrance of oak. There is an element of mesmerising and inviting vanilla cream joined at the hip by hazelnut (I wish it is nutella). Looking deep into this again offers a shade of minerals and a shy phenol enveloped by a passion fruit citrus.

Taste: Honey and dried fruit combine, super soft middle ground, transcending into creamy peach and vanilla. That fragrance of wood comes into forefront now with the softest of the phenols and it shows another dimension of soapiness. There is an enjoyable dusting of spices

Finish: Refreshing, Salivating and dry bitter chocolate finish.
