Sequel of the Mitr, a single cask bottled for the MSA (Malt Society of Arabia). A prestigious whisky club based in the UAE, a group that undertakes fantastic initiatives on various Whiskies from across the globe. Thank Alok and Dheerendra for carrying this from Dubai back to India, Bangalore.

Name: Mitr 2

Distillery: Paul John, Goa India

Distilled: Jan 2015

Bottled: Aug 2021

Abv: 57.5%

Cask #12877- Oloroso Peated Whisky
324 Bottles from a single cask

Colour – Mahogany, Henna Notes

Nose – Typical Paul John nose with rich sweetness and dry fruits all over it, date syrup is something I get very often from this distillery. There is wet wood and peat in the background but largely dominated by the Oloroso influence. Damp earth and warehouse. The last notes were floral and quite surprisingly vocal.

Mouth – A rich and rewarding experience of dry peppers evolving into sherry sweet oscillating with dry upper peat. Marvellous mouth presence and while the whisky is well rounded at the high Abv, it does make its presence felt and not a demure one. Healthy dose of vegetal bitters at the tail

Finish – A medium long finish with fennel and dry wood that lingers on.

Excellent Whisky! Well picked.

I have found the peated expressions from PJ always giving the whisky giving a great body to the whiskies but apart from the select cask peated they always prefer the backdrop rather than the centre stage. Clean peat with dollops of cask influence this one very enjoyable.
