A very busy time indeed for the team working to make the Amrut Amaze III a success. As members all of you have been very patient and enthusiastic about this initiative and we cannot thank you enough for this. Couple of important points in today’s update.

The MAD RUSH

• We appreciate the enthusiasm by the members and would love to cater to all but please bear in mind, there are only 360 bottles that have come out from the casks allocated to SMAC. This makes it very difficult to keep our large community happy, but it’s the best we can do.
• We have decided to allocate a maximum of 2 bottles per member, please do not approach us for more, there isn’t enough available.
• Special bottle number allocations are not possible
• Please avoid fake registrations, allow other members to taste the whisky we struggled to deliver to you
• We humbly request our patrons to book only when you can comply with the T&C and go through with the purchase; booking and not purchasing puts that much pressure on us to reallocate the stock
• Keep patience, we will work our way through booking codes and allocations
• Mails going into SPAM, this is key please add members@smacindia.com to your safe senders list, this will help us get to you on time

Bottle collection:

• Anurag wines has made special arrangements for the bottle collection to happen smoothly
• Store timings are 10:30 to 22:30 however best times for bottle collection would be 11:00 to 16:30
• Please carry your membership ID and booking codes, these are important
• Please do NOT request for a special number, we will issue them randomly
• Anurag wines will store the bottle for a reasonable time in case you are unable to collect in person immediately
Lastly but not least please spread the word, the club thrives on likeminded people coming together, please keep the spirit alive.

Covid-19:
Launch Event:

• The planning for the event at Bangalore is proceeding as scheduled, there are no Govt. restrictions at the moment, we continue to watch the guideline issued by authorities closely.
• The venue is open air and we intend to keep the gathering restricted.
• Outstation candidates are advised to carry Covid test results to ensure they are not hassled by the authorities
• Masks are mandatory to enter the venue

Amrut Amaze was the first private bottling done for a whisky club in India by Amrut distilleries. The series was conceived as a trilogy with the first release in 2018 followed by the sequel nicknamed #prodigalmalt in 2019. The final release is scheduled to be launched on 3rd of April 2021.

While the whisky itself won the hearts of many with its taste and flavour profiles; a historic monument which is an architectural marvel was the inspiration behind the concept and design of the label. We had released clues with each release which led to the location of this crypt… none have been able to decipher the clues and find the location as of yet… Hope this teaser helps.

Watch out for the final video to be premiered at the launch event where we will reveal the location and taste the release III whisky.

Members Alert! We would like to give you a heads up on our plans for the launch of the final release of Amrut Amaze.

The planned date stands as 03/April/2021 and will be held in Bangalore. The affair is a black-tie dinner limited to approximately 50 guests on a first come serve basis, event link with venue details will open soon.

We would love to see you at the event where the secrets of the maze are to be revealed. Enjoy the second teaser as a prelude of things to come..

Why you must taste the Paul John Select Cask PX?

If you are from geographies beyond the sub-continent you would wonder or perhaps snigger at the fact that whisky is consumed completely diluted in water, soda or sometimes coke!

There is a very simple reason -a sniff of the concoction that is called ‘whisky’ will make you realise why this is the preferred form of consumption! That strong odour of ENA, grain distill reeks through most whiskies produced locally, and if you get past that you may observe a typical grimace when you take the first sip. Again, no mystery here; apart from the caramel overload the drink will be laced with artificial flavours & since there is no (or in rare cases, little) maturation the alcohol burn is significant. And this I would guesstimate is the experience with 95% of the whisky drinking population in India.

To associate sweet, syrupy & date syrup that we found in the Paul John Select cask PX it is almost an unfathomable task for the usual dramster. That’s why I recommend you to get your hands on this magnificent dram. The whisky recently awarded as a winner by “World Whisky Awards” in its category is now offered in India and will give you an opportunity to see how different a whisky can be. The impression begins from the dark burgundy colour that the liquid exhibits and experiments such as using this as a topping to a “Kesar Kulfi” will leave you astounded with the explosion of flavours in your mouth.

We had the company of Mr. Offerman last evening. Young peated whisky but still maintaining the character of the Lagavulin.
Very nicely done Mr. Offerman.
12 CS releases by Lagavulin is a cult and is perhaps the best kept open secret. Now imagine that watered down and you get the Offerman. And yes it would be wonderful sitting next to a fire drinking this the whole evening, just that we have too much to do…. #it‘stime

We thought we should get a bit of a prelude of the whisky that we intend to taste at the event on 11 Feb at The Paul 😁.

Both whiskies are non chill filtered and are bottled at an ABV of 48%.

These exquisite whiskies finished in ex wine casks offer you the opportunity to taste a different dimension in craft whisky. Be it the dessert-like sweetness offered by the whisky finished in Pedro Ximenez or the dry dark chocolate with citrus offered by the Oloroso. These releases in India are a testament to the growing interest in single malt whisky.

New kid on the block – Kamet Single Malt Whisky

There is a new kid on the block and the block is getting bigger!! Yes the portfolio of Indian malt whisky is getting bigger and while the fears of losing repute (which has been painstakingly built by the torch bearers) still rings in the background, this one comes with a BIG name backing the brand. Surrinder Kumar, master distiller Ex Amrut, is associated with this corporation known as Piccadilly who are the second largest malt whisky producers in India after Diageo. Goes without saying; with such a reputed name behind the name, the bar of expectation is quite high.

Color, Appearance: 1.3 on the SMAC colour card. Russetmuscat or chestnut Oloroso. Looks oily in the glass but the speed at which the legs are trickling down tells me its its light. the colour is fantastic has a righ hue to it.

Nose: A nice greeting, rounded, sweet, oak, spices with fresh florals. An edgy spirit seems to rear its head every now and then. Its got a bit of the damp warehouse smell that is typical. Its a good nose sets some expectations. The nose actually reminds me of the Glenmorangie 10.

Mouth: A mentholated mint chutney with vanilla overtones. Some spice associated with citrus notes. It has a good mouth feel. There are notes of wood and the cask but more on the nose than on the mouth. The easy mouthfeel leads onto bitterness which is ringing in pepper spice. Can be served blind for any highland scotch and will sail through without batting an eye.

Finish: Medium length and lingering. Sweet leading on to the grassy vegetation and bitterness. Volume of the sip plays a big role in this whisky, take a small sip and it will give you a rather thin and bitter notes a slightly bigger sip will let you get more out of this whisky. Will be a good session whisky. The empty glass smells wonderful, insence, wood, dusty cupboards not opened for a long time and maybe a bit of wet mud. Very nice indeed

With Water: (I use alkaline water) Spirit on the nose gets more feisty. The citrus becomes a little more prominent. One needs to be a little careful with water too much and it will become very watery and light with heavy influence of vegatative bitterness.

Overall a very drinkable and good whisky. Appears to be with caramel and chill filtered but has definitely good character and balance. It will be a great entry to the whisky produced in India and certainly much more defined then what i expected. If its at the price point what I am told which is the 2500-3000 range this is an awesome deal.

Well some of you have been waiting for this very keenly and well here it is….

60 bottles released in India and a few lucky members get to sample this wonderful whisky.

Bangalore samples will be available with myself from Thursday 21 Jan the (Bannerghatta Road, Harsha Thimmaiah (HRBR Layout).

Members from out of station we will coordinate direct to make this happen.
